  • 10%: Restaurant workforce as part of the overall U.S. workforce
  • 68% of consumers more likely to eat at establishment with locally grown menu items
  • 42% of consumers say technology makes transactions more confusing
  • 80% of consumers eat an international cuisine at least once a month
  • 9 in 10: Restaurant managers who started at entry level
  • 8 in 10: Restaurant owners who started their industry careers in entry-level positions
  • 9 in 10: Restaurants with fewer than 50 employees
  • 7 in 10: Restaurants that are single-unit operations
  • Half of all U.S. adults have worked at a restaurant at some point in their lives

The influence restaurants have on overall economic opportunity and consumer lifestyle suggests that restaurants will have to continue to cater to their customers’ needs, especially for small restaurants with narrower audiences.
